The institution was initially formed as a sheltered workshop for intellectually disabled children. However, the Trust transitioned in 2005 to provide a broader range of services for adults aged 18-65 in the Wellington Region. The name “Manaaki” reflects their commitment to kindness, respect, and encouraging individuals to thrive.
