Midcity Childcare Centre
Midcity Childcare Centre is a not-for-profit early childhood education service that brings a mirror of possibilities reflecting endless opportunities for growth, learning and play. The institution was established with the goal of offering a loving and inclusive learning environment which ensures that children develop a sense of belonging and are encouraged to guide their own learning.
Age-Based Learning Environments:
Midcity aims at providing personalised solutions by dividing it into three distinct age groups such as:
- Infants (Up to 20 Months): The institution understands the significance of a child's early months, and thus, makes sure that the young ones grow up in a safe environment.
- Toddlers (21 Months – 3.5 Years): The centre supports the growing independence and curiosity of toddlers through engaging activities.
- Kindy (3.5 – 5 Years): This category prepares children for the transition to formal schooling with a curriculum that fosters foundational skills.
Services:
- Curriculum Based on Te Whāriki: Midcity's curriculum incorporates Te Whāriki, New Zealand's Early Childhood curriculum which considers play as an essential element in the overall learning process. The teachers at the centre identify and respond to the opportunities to extend children's learning.
More(+)
- Nutritious Meals: The centre offers nutritious meals prepared on-site for students to stay active throughout. The meals majorly include morning tea, midday dinners, afternoon tea and a late snack.
- Storypark Platform: Midcity makes use of Storypark, an online platform that allows parents to be actively involved in their child's learning journey. It helps them to access and contribute effectively to their child’s growth.
- Personal Portfolio Books: The centre provides a unique portfolio containing photos and learning stories for each child. They provide a precious snapshot of a child's growth and development during their preschool years.
- Family Functions and Events: The centre organises fun-filled events throughout the year, such as annual Christmas parties, parent breakfasts and Matariki celebrations. It fosters community and strengthens relationships among teachers and children.
- Excursions and Nature Programme: Midcity promotes the idea of building strong connections between children and the natural environment. Therefore, provides children with hands-on informal exploration experiences for lifelong awareness, respect and care for the environment.
- Gym Programme: The institution brings in The 'Born to Move' gym programme which is held weekly at Les Mills for children aged 2-5 years. It is a 30-minute session, helping children learn to move with music while building fundamental movement skills such as balance and understanding opposites.
Midcity’s philosophy concentrates on learning through play, respectful relationships and partnerships with whānau (families). Their core values instill Whanaungatanga, Aroha, and Ako and respect for diverse cultural roots.
